Veterans Disability

People who have offered service to our nation as Army, Air Force, and Marine officers risk their own lives for the sake of millions of US citizens all over the world. These people sometimes suffer life-threatening injuries while performing their duty for our country. When this happens, these officers are entitled to receive compensation as a result of the injuries sustained. The military has a special department that deals with compensation known as the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (or VA) – http://www.va.gov/

Some of the injuries suffered by officers in the military include loss of memory, paralysis and loss of hands. Some of these injuries will leave an individual permanently disabled.

One of the reasons why the Department of Veteran’s Affairs was created was to ensure veterans are assisted and taken care of so that they are able to live normally in spite of their injuries. Military officers’ injured in the line of duty are entitled to receive amounts ranging from $100-$3100 in monthly payments depending on the extent of their injuries.

Veterans disability payments depend on both the magnitude of the disability and the number of people who depend on the injured officer for a livelihood.

Individuals who suffer loss of limbs and have more dependants get more in disability benefits compared to those who suffer minor injuries and have fewer dependants.

If you have a disabled spouse, you might also be eligible to receive more money as veterans disability payments.

Individuals who feel they qualify to receive veterans disability benefits need to follow the laid down procedures that includes presenting their medical records and a letter from a qualified doctor who assessed the injury. As part of the application process, one should present official documents that show their dependants actually belong to them.  People who are not conversant with the veterans’ disability payments application process may find the process difficult but they can easily get assistance from qualified lawyers who are familiar with the process.
